ABOUT
Lydia Venema (she/her) is a media creator from Winnipeg, MB, currently based in Toronto, ON. She is in her final semester of a BA in RTA Media Production from The Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University, where she has concentrated in screenwriting and television and video, and maintained a 4.0 GPA. Lydia is the writer, director, and associate producer of Sweetwater (2025), and currently works as a social media content creator with Toronto designer Izzy Camilleri’s IZ Adaptive. Lydia is passionate about queer and disability representation on screen, women’s sports, and her dearly beloved espresso machine.

Skills & Services
Videography
Lydia has worked in corporate and advertisement videography for the fashion industry since 2023. She is certified in advanced single camera cinematography at the RTA School of Media. She has experience working with DSLR, mirrorless, and cinema cameras from a variety of brands such as ARRI, Sony, and Canon, as well as with creating high quality video projects using an iPhone.
Writing
Lydia is a multi-talented writer, whose strong communication skills bridge multiple platforms, mediums, and genres. Coming from a background in poetry, prose, and student journalism; she is formally trained in writing for drama, comedy, and unscripted television and film at the RTA School of Media.
Video Editing
Lydia has 4+ years experience with professional editing for a variety of formats and mediums, including narrative film, documentary, Instagram reels, TikTok, YouTube, and digital advertising. She is proficient with numerous video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, and CapCut.
Directing
Lydia is immensely passionate about directing for both fiction and non-fiction narratives. She directs from a queer, woman-centred lens — drawing on her own experiences — and strives to amplify other marginalized voices in her work. She has a background in directing for the stage in the Winnipeg youth theatre community, and has proudly directed sketch comedy for the webseries Yikes! (2022-), and many corporate video projects. Her debut film, Sweetwater comes out in 2025.
Hosting
Lydia has 2 years experience as a live on-air radio host with SpiritLive Radio, where she wrote and researched her own content. In the short documentary film, Out of Order (2024), which she also produced, Lydia serves as the on-screen presenter and narrator. She honed her skills as an interviewer on both of these projects.


Producing
Lydia has produced two films: a narrative short, Sweetwater (2025), and a short documentary, Out of Order (2024). As a part of her BA in Media Production, Lydia has completed courses such as Business of Creative Media and Business of Producing (Advanced), where she was trained in script coverage, and had the opportunity to pitch a television series to a panel of respected Canadian television executives.
Photography
Through her role as Junior Content Creator at IZ Adaptive, Lydia has experience creating professional images of both people and product for social media and advertising purposes. She is proficient with Photoshop, and edits all of her own work.
